Tartarin de Tarascon

The story centers around Tartarin, a well-to-do bourgeois who lives in Tarascon. He and his friends indulge in hunting, gossip, and leisurely pursuits. Tartarin's vivid imagination leads him to believe he has traveled to places like Shanghai, despite never leaving his hometown. This blurring of reality and fiction propels the narrative as he is pushed to embark on a supposed hunting trip to Africa, where he experiences modern Casablanca instead of the wild adventures he envisioned.

As Tartarin grapples with the realities of his misadventures, he encounters a charming Moorish woman named Baïa and quickly becomes immersed in the pleasures of the city. However, his fantasies unravel when Baïa disappears and he finds himself entangled with a deceitful prince and a disastrous hunting expedition.
