Ten Thousand Li Ahead

The narrative follows Driver Ko Wah, portrayed by Lee Ching, who refuses to aid the enemy by transporting ammunition. His defiance leads to incarceration after a confrontation with his disloyal boss. Amid his struggles, he encounters Siu-fung, an unwilling dancer escaping the war, and together they navigate the challenges of their destitute lives while holding onto their integrity.

Director Chusheng Cai, a co-founder of the National Salvation Association of Cinema, infuses the film with social commentary. Ko's rebellion against a dance parlour's entertainment reflects Cai's critique of the complacency in Hong Kong society during that era. The characters' decision to return to the mainland and join the resistance effort mirrors Cai's own eventual commitment to the cause in real life. This film stands as part of an antiwar trilogy and provides a nuanced perspective on the personal impacts of war and resistance.
