The film centers around Abah, who loses his home and property due to his brother-in-law's debts. In search of refuge, Abah and his family move to a remote village in West Java, settling in his childhood home, which becomes their only option after a court ruling against them.

As the family grapples with poverty, each member plays a role in trying to improve their situation. Euis, Abah's eldest daughter, actively seeks ways to support the family, while the younger Cemara, or Ara, maintains a positive outlook despite their circumstances. The film is based on a television series of the same name by Arswendo Atmowiloto, which adds depth to the family dynamics and their resilience in facing adversity.
