Terrible Jungle

Set in French Guyana, Terrible Jungle follows Eliott, a young anthropology researcher, on a quest to study the Otopis tribe in the Amazon rainforest. What begins as a scholarly pursuit quickly devolves into chaos when Eliott discovers the tribe is not what he expected. Instead of the idyllic 'good savages', he encounters a community marked by violence and alcoholism.

The film also explores familial tensions as Eliott's mother, Chantal, a controversial ethnologist, sets aside her own expedition to rescue her son. Her journey into the jungle, alongside the hapless Lieutenant-Commander Raspailles and his men, adds another layer of comedic conflict to the narrative. With a strong cast featuring Vincent Dedienne and Catherine Deneuve, the film combines adventure and comedy in a way that highlights the absurdities of cultural misunderstandings and personal struggles.
