The 5th String

Set in 1999 in the old medina of Casablanca, The 5th String follows Malek, a young man captivated by the lute. He moves in with his uncle Amir, a master musician, who promises to teach him the secrets of the instrument, particularly the elusive fifth string. As Malek's talent emerges, Amir struggles with jealousy over his nephew's abilities.

Throughout his musical education, Malek encounters Laura, a fellow musician who inspires him to chase his dreams. The film delves into the complexities of mentorship, talent, and ambition against the backdrop of Morocco's rich musical heritage.
