The Assistant

The story follows Pavel, a film instructor who faces a series of unfortunate events as he attempts to make his first film. After selling his family apartment to fund his project, he finds himself in a dire situation when the bank he trusts goes bankrupt. This leaves him unable to repay a loan taken out for film stock, while his family relationships deteriorate further under the strain.

As Pavel's life spirals out of control, he loses touch with reality and begins to behave like a character from the films he admires. His interactions with his wife, son, and even a neighborhood boy lead to misunderstandings and conflicts that further highlight his struggles. The only solace he finds is in a student cinema hall, where classic films are screened, offering a temporary escape from his chaotic life.
