The Awakening

The film follows Ah Chuen, a cement worker who is unexpectedly cast as the lead in a New Wave movie. With no acting experience, he navigates the challenges of fame, supported by his co-star, Fong Ching-lung. Their relationship becomes complicated as Ah Chuen confuses scripted moments for real affection, only to face a harsh reality when his film becomes a hit.

As he transitions from a successful film to a Wong Fei-hung period drama, Ah Chuen's lackluster performance leads to his downfall. Struggling with the pressures of the entertainment industry, he seeks solace in Fong Ching-lung, only to realize she sees him as a friend and has ties to someone from her past. Disheartened by both his shattered dreams and unrequited feelings, Ah Chuen decides to leave the glitz of the industry behind and return to his life as a cement worker.
