The Dadshuttle is one of those quiet films that sneaks up on you. It’s a simple premise, just a father and his gay son driving somewhere, but the conversations they have are layered with tension and vulnerability. Tom Donaghy’s direction gives it this raw, almost documentary feel, which enhances the authenticity of their dialogue. The pacing is deliberate, allowing moments of silence to breathe, which can get a bit uncomfortable, but that’s kind of the point, right? The performances are genuine; you can feel the love and strain in their relationship. It’s not flashy, no big effects or dramatic set pieces, just two characters really exploring their bond—or the lack thereof. A distinctive gem in the realm of family dramas, for sure.
