The Day of Youth

The Day of Youth follows Takema, a freshman at Tokyo Gakuen University, as he navigates the pressures of family loyalty and personal aspirations. His father, Tatsunosuke, leads the Waku gang and desires for Takema to strengthen their criminal ties. However, Takema seeks a different path, striving for a better life away from gang activities.

Alongside Takema is Akiko, the daughter of a restaurant owner, who provides him with a place to stay with a dancing mistress named Shiu. The film delves into the lives of several students, highlighting their struggles, such as Sakamoto, who works on the docks to afford his education, and Akiko, who grapples with her mother's complicated relationship with a corrupt politician. This drama paints a vivid picture of youth, ambition, and the challenges that come with them.
