The Different One

The Different One centers on a protagonist who grapples with deep-seated hatred for a fellow soldier, who is determined to forge a friendship despite the animosity. This relationship transitions from antipathy to mutual obsession, leading to irreversible consequences.

The film is a second project from Masloboishchykov's time at The High Courses of Script Writers and Film Directors and was screened at the Semaine de la critique. Its narrative is based on the short novel Lagoftalm by Dmitry Bakin, a lesser-known writer. The military backdrop is portrayed in a way that blends aggressive tension with comic elements, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a prison or madhouse.
