The Empty Cradle

The narrative follows Alice Larkin, a woman disowned by her family for marrying below her social class. Living a modest life with her husband John and their children, Alice is faced with a moral quandary when a lawyer offers her $50,000 to adopt her youngest child, Louise, on behalf of the wealthy Ethel Lewis, who refuses to have children.
