The First Time is pretty interesting for its straightforward approach to a coming-of-age story. Ji-woo's quest for sexual experience unfolds against a backdrop of striking landscapes that contrast with her inner turmoil. The pacing feels deliberate, almost meditative at times, allowing you to soak in the atmosphere. Kim Tae-soo’s direction has this subtle, almost voyeuristic quality. Performances are sincere, especially Ji-woo, whose innocence feels authentic without being overly sentimental. The film tackles themes of desire and self-discovery, but does so in a way that avoids the typical clichés. It’s got a certain rawness that makes it stand out from the more polished entries in the genre.
