The Gentle Indifference of the World

The film follows Saltanat as she transitions from her peaceful countryside life to the challenges of urban existence. Left with a significant family debt, she strives to protect her mother from imprisonment while dealing with the complexities of her new environment. Her childhood friend, Kuandyk, remains by her side, determined to ensure her safety despite their difficult circumstances.

As Saltanat is introduced to a potential suitor who claims he can resolve her family's financial troubles, her hopes quickly fade when she realizes the city’s men are not to be trusted. Kuandyk's attempts to help only lead him into deeper trouble, illustrating the harsh realities they both face. The film portrays their resilience and refusal to give up against a backdrop of personal and societal challenges.
