The Goodbye Girls

Directed by an unnamed filmmaker, The Goodbye Girls follows 22-year-old Ikuko, who is left reeling after being fired from her editing internship right before graduation. Seeking guidance from her father, she is instead met with unexpected news that he wants to pursue a singing career. This prompts Ikuko to venture to Takarazuka, a town known for its musical scene, where she reunites with her classmate Mari.

In Takarazuka, Ikuko meets Yoshie, an accountant, and together with Mari, they establish a shared living space they call "The Women's House: Die Fraulein." The film delves into the complexities of friendship, ambition, and self-discovery among these young women as they navigate their roles in a rapidly changing society. With a talented cast featuring Yuki Saito, Hiro Komura, and Mayumi Asaka, The Goodbye Girls offers a glimpse into the lives of its characters as they confront their aspirations and personal challenges.
