The Kitchen, directed by Andrea Berloff, has this gritty vibe that really captures the essence of 1970s Hell's Kitchen. You can feel the tension in every scene, and the performances by Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss are surprisingly layered. They embody these complex characters who've been pushed into a world of crime, and you see them evolve in some pretty interesting ways. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but it feels deliberate, almost mirroring their chaotic lives. It does a nice job blending action with drama, and there's a raw energy throughout that keeps you invested. Practical effects give it a grounded feel, making the stakes feel real, which I appreciate in a crime drama.
