The Last Wish

Set against the backdrop of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, The Last Wish follows Ángel Flores, a Spanish actor who returns to Spain to fulfill the final wish of his theatre master, Miguel Lama. The narrative intertwines Ángel's personal history and his journey to a remote monastery in Northern Spain, where he is tasked with reading Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov.

As Ángel engages with the text and visits Miguel’s graveside each night, he unravels the mysteries of his past and the significance of literature in coping with trauma. The film highlights not only the power of storytelling but also the enduring value of authentic literature amidst political turmoil. The Last Wish invites viewers to reflect on the intersection of art and human experience in times of crisis.
