The Matriarch

The Matriarch presents a story centered around Martta and Otto, a pair of traveling tailors who claim descent from the Romanovs. Joined by their two sons and a son-in-law, they navigate life on the fringes of society as they seek work across Finland. When faced with financial difficulties, the family occasionally resorts to crime, leading to escalating violence from the sons as Martta takes charge of their business.

The plot thickens with the arrival of Kaspar, a man they abduct, who unexpectedly becomes part of their travels. His presence complicates family dynamics, especially as he catches the eye of Martta's daughter, Lara. Tensions rise further with the unexpected return of Laszlo, a long-lost half-brother, who aims to assert control over the family. This mix of drama and comedy presents a unique take on family loyalty, violence, and the search for identity.
