So, 'The Metropolitan Opera: Hamlet' from 2010 is pretty interesting. It brings Thomas's Hamlet back to the Met after quite a long absence. The production, directed by Caurier and Leiser, has this stark, brooding quality that really sets the mood. Simon Keenlyside’s portrayal of Hamlet is captivating; he captures that tortured essence of the character well. The pacing of the opera has a nice ebb and flow, allowing the intense emotional moments to resonate. The atmosphere is heavy, almost palpable, which I think is a big draw. It's not every day you see such a distinct take on Hamlet, especially in an operatic form. Definitely worth noting, though, is the choice of practical effects that enhance the overall experience.
Stark and brooding production design. · Keenlyside's performance is particularly compelling. · Return of a rare opera to the Met's repertoire.
