The Metropolitan Opera: Medea

This production of Medea marks the Met-premiere of Cherubini’s rarely performed masterpiece. Sondra Radvanovsky takes center stage as Medea, the vengeful sorceress, supported by an impressive cast including tenor Matthew Polenzani as Giasone, her husband. The opera delves into themes of love and betrayal, enhanced by the emotional depth of its characters.

The supporting roles are filled by talented performers, including soprano Janai Brugger as Glauce, who competes for Giasone's affection, and bass Michele Pertusi as Creonte, Glauce’s father and King of Corinth. Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova portrays Neris, Medea’s confidante, adding layers to the narrative. Conducted by Carlo Rizzi, this production highlights the musical complexity and dramatic intensity of the opera genre.
