The Naked Heart

The film tells the story of Maria Chapdelaine, who returns to her family farm after five years in boarding school. She is caught in a love triangle between Robert Gagnon, her childhood friend, and François Paradis, a handsome trapper. Despite her affection for François, circumstances lead her to realize Robert's deep love for her.

As the narrative unfolds, Maria's life becomes intertwined with tragedy when François is lost during a storm and Lorenzo Surprenant, a man with a troubled past, meets a violent end.
