So, The Odd Couple, directed by Gene Saks, really captures this clash of personalities in a way that's both funny and a bit cringey. You’ve got Felix, this uptight neat freak, and Oscar, who’s a total slob, and their dynamic is just gold. The pacing is tight, but it allows for these long moments where the absurdity of their situation sinks in. It’s all about those little quirks, like Felix obsessing over cleanliness while Oscar just can’t be bothered. The performances from Lemmon and Matthau complement each other brilliantly—Lemmon's neurotic energy versus Matthau’s carefree attitude creates this constant back-and-forth. You feel the tension build, but it’s also light-hearted; there's a warmth to it amidst the chaos of their lives.
Great for a comedy night.Interesting character study.Highlights 60s New York culture.
