The One is a curious blend of action and sci-fi, with a bit of a cult vibe. Jet Li takes on dual roles, which is always a treat, and the alternate universe concept is a fun twist, though it can get a bit convoluted. James Wong's direction adds a certain flair, mixing quick-paced action with some slower, introspective moments. The visuals stand out, especially the practical effects used in the fight scenes—there's a tangible quality that CGI often lacks. The film’s exploration of identity and self is interesting, albeit a bit thin at times. Still, it’s the kind of film that has its own unique energy, especially if you appreciate Li’s martial arts skills and the early 2000s aesthetic.
