The Ones from Below

The Ones from Below follows Gregório, a rustic and idealistic peasant living in the village of Rosillas. His frustration grows as he attempts to reclaim the waters of his family's old dam, which have been diverted by Colonel Igrejas, an influential farmer. This conflict places him against the backdrop of local corruption and the elite's socioeconomic power, challenging his values and relationships.

As Gregório navigates contempt from the townspeople and the pressures of his environment, he must confront difficult choices regarding his family. The film captures the tension between rural life and the pull of urban migration, particularly illustrated through Gregório's interactions with his son Olegário and Paula, the school teacher.
