The Oresteia

The Oresteia is a trilogy consisting of Agamemnon, The Libation Bearers, and The Eumenides. It tells the story of the murder of Agamemnon by Clytemnestra, followed by Orestes' revenge and the subsequent trial that resolves the curse on the House of Atreus.

This 2021 adaptation was produced by Theatre for a New Audience at the Polonsky Shakespeare Center and features a cast that includes Obi Abili, Helen Carey, and Kelley Curran. The production highlights the intricate relationships between characters and the divine, showcasing how the Greek gods influenced their fates and decisions throughout the narrative.

As the only surviving example of an ancient Greek theatre trilogy, The Oresteia holds a unique place in theatrical history. This production not only honors the original themes and intentions of Aeschylus but also brings them to contemporary audiences through a modern lens.
