The Painting

The Painting tells the story of Ivan, a young artist preparing for an exhibition centered on the preservation of values. His artwork sparks controversy, drawing the ire of religious activists and causing significant public outcry. As a result, Ivan's painting is removed from the exhibition, leading to an attack on his studio that culminates in arson.

Facing a criminal case, Ivan enlists the help of the Pen & Paper Bar Association, where he and the exhibition curator strategize his defense. As the narrative unfolds, the film delves into the absurdities of the cultural conflict surrounding art and belief, punctuated by Ivan's encounter with musician Sergei Shnurov. This drama provides a thought-provoking examination of artistic expression in the face of societal pressure.
