The Past We Can Never Return To

The film recounts the story of Marcel Ravidat, an 18-year-old mechanic who, during a walk with his dog in Southwestern France, stumbled upon a hidden cave filled with prehistoric artwork. This discovery, made with the help of his friends, unveiled over 900 paintings depicting various animals, including species that are now extinct, such as the wooly rhinoceros.

The animation showcases the astonishing detail and vivid colors of the paintings, which were created using mineral pigments. The techniques used by these ancient artists involved blowing paint through a narrow tube, likely made from a hollowed bone, onto the cave walls. This documentary serves as a visual exploration of a significant archaeological find, shedding light on human creativity and the history of art more than 17,000 years ago.
