The Plum Flower Embroidery

The Plum Flower Embroidery tells the story of Suzhou Pingtan artist Guo Yueting, who leads a modest life with his wife Meiyu and their twin daughters, Baimei and Hongmei. Their peaceful existence is disrupted when the bully Qiu Long attacks, seizing Meiyu and destroying a cherished embroidery, the "plum blossom scarf."

In a moment of rage, Guo Yueting retaliates against Qiu Long, which forces him to flee overseas to escape the consequences of his actions. Meanwhile, Meiyu and her daughters find refuge in Shanghai with Guo Yueting's brother, Xia Yueqing, as they navigate the fallout from the violence. This narrative captures the struggles of familial bonds against societal challenges, set against the backdrop of 1980s China.
