The Return of Lencho

The Return of Lencho centers on Lencho, a 30-year-old artist and graffiti writer who returns to Guatemala after spending a decade in New York. He seeks to inspire his home country, which has endured over 30 years of terror, by organizing public art projects that address social issues. Lencho assembles a collective of artists to produce impactful art, starting with a festival in Rabinal, a small indigenous village in the Guatemalan highlands.

As the festival unfolds, Lencho faces challenges that arise from the interest of a national police director overseeing a secret "social cleansing" program aimed at suppressing dissent among the youth. The film delves into Lencho's personal struggles as he grapples with the memories of his father, a journalist who lost his life during the civil war.
