The Saga of Tanegashima

The film centers on a Portuguese ship that runs aground in Tanegashima, leading to the introduction of the matchlock musket in Japan. This gift from Captain Pinto to Lord Tokitaka ignites a transformative period as Tokitaka commissions Kinbei, a master swordsmith, to replicate the musket.

As Kinbei works to forge Japan's first firearm, a romantic subplot develops between Captain Pinto and Kinbei's daughter, Wakasa. Kinbei's internal struggle to accept this union reflects the larger conflict of tradition versus change during a time of upheaval in Japan.
