The Strait Story

Set in 1943, The Strait Story follows Ching-Cheng Huang, a Taiwanese sculptor and painter who embarks on a journey to visit family and friends before teaching in China. His plans are tragically interrupted when the passenger liner he boards is sunk by an American submarine.

Decades later, the narrative shifts to Shou-shou, a fine art restorer suffering from a debilitating illness. While restoring one of Huang's paintings, she uncovers the artist's story and the tragic circumstances surrounding his death at sea. Inspired by Huang's passion for art and life, Shou-shou immerses herself in the past, recreating the narrative of the painting "Woman in Black" and imagining the relationship between Huang and his girlfriend.
