The World in Three Dimensions

The narrative follows a mathematician who confronts management over the need to halt and improve a new pipe rolling mill. This conflict not only impacts his professional life but also disrupts his daughter's relationship with her fiancé, who is depicted as a careerist and coward.

As the story unfolds, the protagonist, persuaded by a friend, decides to abandon practical work to focus on science in Sverdlovsk. However, he ultimately recognizes that his true talent is rooted in hands-on experience, prompting his return to the factory where he can apply his knowledge directly.
