Thinner is an interesting mix of horror and dark fantasy, a film that plays off the anxieties surrounding weight and self-image. Tom Holland directs with a sense of urgency that matches the protagonist's escalating desperation. The practical effects, especially in the physical transformation of the lead, really stand out; they’re unsettling and memorable. The tone is grim and satirical in its take on justice and revenge. I found the pacing a bit uneven at times, but it serves the narrative's urgency. The performances, particularly by Robert John Burke, capture that blend of fear and hubris effectively. It's a film that leaves an uneasy feeling long after the credits roll, which is kind of its charm.
