Thirst (2019) mixes comedy and horror in a way that feels fresh but also familiar. It starts with a pretty heavy premise—Hulda's brother is dead, and she’s the prime suspect. The pacing is interesting; it lingers on her despair before introducing the quirky, thousand-year-old vampire, Hjörtur. The dynamic between them provides a nice balance of dark humor and absurdity. You get this eerie yet whimsical atmosphere, and the practical effects have a nice low-key charm. The performances carry this quirky vibe well, especially how they play off each other. It's not your typical vampire flick, that's for sure. Kind of feels like a twisted fairytale gone awry.
