This Island

This Island follows Bebo, a teenager living in a coastal Puerto Rican town. Alongside his brother, he navigates the challenges of their environment, resorting to illegal activities in search of a better life. When a job goes awry, Bebo finds himself on the run with Lola, a wealthy girl wanting to escape her own troubles. Their journey through the mountains is fraught with danger as they encounter the remnants of a fading lifestyle amidst the violence threatening their lives.

The film serves as a portrait of the Puerto Rican experience, tackling colonial legacy and the complexities of identity. It had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it received multiple honors including Best Cinematography and Best New Director.
