Three Dances

Three Dances delves into the stories of Birgit Åkesson and Birgit Cullberg, both born in 1908, who made significant strides in the world of dance. Åkesson's work, influenced by avant-garde modern dance, includes her serious piece "Fertility," which debuted in Paris in 1934. She co-designed a distinctive European dance language and created notable performances for the Stockholm Opera in the mid-20th century.

In contrast, Birgit Cullberg brings a more relaxed and humorous approach to her choreography, as seen in her work on "Antonius & Cleopatra." After gaining recognition with "Miss Julie" in 1950, Cullberg founded the Cullberg Ballet in 1967, leading it until 1985. Topsy Håkansson also features prominently, portraying the character of a gypsy in this exploration of dance theatre.
