The story follows kitsch author Johannes J. Bachmann, who faces a creative and financial crisis. With his wife gone and no one reading his books except for his cleaning lady, he is at a crossroads in life. His godchild Leo shares similar feelings of hopelessness, leading them to consider leaving together.

However, their plan takes an unexpected turn when a robbery occurs at a nearby bank. The gangsters choose to hide in Bachmann's apartment, taking him and Leo hostage. Instead of reacting with fear, the two men rebel against their captors, creating a chaotic and humorous situation that leaves the robbers bewildered.
