Terry Gilliam’s 'Twelve Monkeys' is a wild ride through a dystopian future and the chaos of time travel. It blends mystery, sci-fi, and thriller elements seamlessly, and the atmosphere is heavy with that typical Gilliam surrealism. Bruce Willis gives a grounded performance as Cole, while Madeline Stowe brings intensity to her role. The practical effects hold up quite well, especially for a 1995 film, and the production design really captures the bleakness of a post-apocalyptic world. The nonlinear storytelling can be a bit jarring, but it adds to the film's intensity. It’s interesting in its exploration of madness and the nature of time—there’s a lot to unpack here if you dig deep.
Released on December 29, 1995.Features practical effects and minimal CGI.Shot in various locations including Philadelphia.Based on Chris Marker's short film 'La Jetée'.
