So, Universal Squadrons is an interesting piece from 2011, directed by someone who remains a mystery, but that doesn't take away from its charm. The film dives into the psyche of Captain Lance Deakin, a Texan trying to shake off the shadows of his past in Iraq. The way it captures his struggle with flashbacks feels very raw and personal. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it adds to the tension. Practical effects are used here, which gives it a grounded feel that’s hard to find in modern action films. You can really sense Deakin's turmoil through the performances, and it creates a unique atmosphere that sticks with you, making it stand out from other action thrillers of the time.
