Vampire (1979) is an odd blend of horror and drama, directed by E.W. Swackhamer. The film has this low-key, almost somber tone, really leaning into Anton's plight as his outdated lifestyle gets upended by modernity. It’s fascinating how it tries to balance the classic vampire lore with contemporary issues like urban development. The pacing is a bit uneven, but there's this gritty atmosphere that pulls you in, especially during the revenge scenes. The practical effects are minimal but surprisingly effective for the TV movie budget. Richard Lynch's performance as Anton is memorable, giving off this tragic, almost sympathetic vibe. It’s not your typical vampire flick, which makes it stand out in the genre.
Originally aired on CBS as a TV movie.Richard Lynch's performance is a highlight.Dramatic themes of modernity vs. tradition.Notable for its practical effects despite budget.
