Venom (2005) is one of those atmospheric horror thrillers that really leans into the swampy, eerie backdrop of Louisiana. You’ve got this group of teenagers caught in a relentless chase, hunted by Mr. Jangles, which is both a chilling character and an interesting nod to the concept of possession. The pacing has this slow burn, but it ramps up tension nicely. What stands out are the practical effects that give a tangible sense of horror—definitely a time when CGI wasn’t the go-to. The performances are solid, especially from the lead, who captures that mix of fear and defiance. There’s a rawness to it that some might overlook, but it certainly gives the film its own unique feel.
