The film follows six-year-old Lukas, who grows up in a chaotic household and yearns for a father. He finds a father figure in Janosch, his teenage mother's boyfriend, who introduces him to a world that is both wild and beautiful. As circumstances change, Lukas takes on Janosch's role in the family when Janosch is arrested, showing his dedication to both his mother and sister.

Lukas's journey is marked by his attempts to protect his family while secretly seeking out Janosch's whereabouts. The arrival of Harry König, a gambling parlor owner and rival, complicates matters further.
