Watership Down is an interesting blend of animation and drama, a bit dark for a rabbit tale. Martin Rosen's direction really captures the starkness of nature and the perils faced by the characters. The hand-drawn animation has a raw, tactile quality that feels immersive. It’s not your typical family film; there are some pretty intense moments and themes of survival, leadership, and the brutality of the natural world. The voice performances, especially by John Hurt as Hazel, lend a weight to the characters that you don't often see in animated features. The pacing can be slow at times, but it creates a contemplative atmosphere that's quite effective. This one's distinctive for sure, and it leaves a lasting impression.
