We are the 8th Route Army Battalion

Set in 1941, this film depicts the collaboration between Japanese invaders and Kuomintang forces, which created significant hardships for the local population in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia border area. The story follows a charcoal burning team from the Eighth Route Army in Yan'an, who respond to the call from the Party Central Committee and Chairman Mao to be self-sufficient in food and clothing.

They face various obstacles as they cut through thorns, camp, and dig kilns to burn charcoal, showcasing their resilience and determination.
