We Want the Light

This documentary delves into the rich history of the Jewish experience over the centuries, intertwining harrowing personal narratives from Holocaust survivors with performances of classical music by renowned composers such as Mahler, Bach, Mendelssohn, and Brahms. The film brings together significant figures in music, including Evgeny Kissin, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Zubin Mehta, who contribute their insights and artistry.

The documentary is produced by a collaborative effort of Opus Arte, Christopher Nupen Films, BBC, and Allegro Films, ensuring a high-quality presentation of both music and storytelling. We Want the Light features performances by the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, the Cologne Cathedral Children’s Choir, and the Cologne Opera Chorus, adding a powerful auditory layer to the historical accounts.
