The story follows Dane, who returns from the army to begin a life with Vera. Their journey leads them to her parents' mountain village where they face the challenges of adapting to a difficult environment. As they seek a new home, they encounter another couple whose marital troubles serve as a cautionary tale. This dynamic influences Vera and Dane's relationship, ultimately guiding them back to their roots in the mountains.
