Wiedersehen mit einem Fremden

The story follows Liesbeth Steiner, who remains hopeful that her husband Max has survived the war and Russian captivity. She waits for his return on every homecoming train, but he does not appear. Liesbeth and her young son Josef seek refuge on her parents-in-law's farm, which never truly feels like home due to her husband's absence and the complexities of his family dynamics.

As time passes, Liesbeth faces challenges, including suspicions from her sister-in-law Margarete about her status as an heiress. When Max is finally included in a late repatriation transport in 1955, Liesbeth's hopes for a new beginning emerge. However, she soon discovers that the years apart have changed Max significantly, adding layers to their reunion and the story's emotional depth.
