Wiren

"Wiren" follows the story of a nine-year-old deaf boy named Wiren, who embarks on a transformative journey after meeting Dr. Young. Leaving his rural life behind, Wiren attends the Kennedy boarding school in Paramaribo, where he faces strict Catholic educational methods. His ambition and resilience lead him to become a catalyst for change, advocating for the introduction of sign language.

As Wiren navigates the obstacles in his life, he discovers the systemic inequalities faced by deaf individuals in Suriname. Rejected by the university, he realizes that deaf people are denied the same rights and opportunities as their hearing counterparts. This realization fuels his determination to seek justice, culminating in a legal battle against the government to uphold the Convention of the Rights of People with Disabilities.
