The story follows Xiang, a hardworking woman managing a small sesame oil business in China. With newfound wealth, she aims to secure a better future for her family by purchasing a wife for her son, Dunzi.

As Xiang tries to exert control over her family with money, she discovers that financial power does not guarantee personal influence. Her interactions with her daughter-in-law Huanhuan reveal the complexities of relationships and the struggle for tranquility within the family.
