Written in Blood is quite the interesting piece from 2003, with a moody atmosphere that pulls you in from the start. Peter Coyote does a solid job as Detective John Traveller, who finds himself in deep trouble after being convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. The pacing has this deliberate quality, allowing the tension to build up, especially as you see the impact on his partner, Detective Matthew Ransom. The themes of betrayal and friendship really hit hard, and there’s this underlying complexity to the characters that keeps you engaged. Not to mention the practical effects, which, while not groundbreaking, have a gritty authenticity that suits the film's dark tone. It’s a layered drama that gives you a lot to think about.
