Wrong Turn is one of those early 2000s horror flicks that really taps into the fear of isolation. The tension builds as Chris and his friends get trapped in those eerie West Virginia woods, and the atmosphere is thick with dread. The mountain men, a product of some unsettling inbreeding, are grotesque and memorable β the practical effects are pretty solid for the time, adding a raw edge that CGI just can't replicate. The performances are decent, but itβs really the setting and the pacing that keep you on edge. You feel the claustrophobia of the forest, and it never lets up, making it a real exercise in dread. Definitely has that grindhouse vibe, which can be a nice touch for collectors.
